What is Doc Edge Virtual Cinema?
Doc Edge Virtual Cinema is an online video streaming platform, much like Netflix or Amazon. It will host all 78 films from Doc Edge Festival 2025, exclusively for Aotearoa New Zealand only.
Why is it limited to NZ only?
All films are geo-blocked for New Zealand only. In other words, only those within New Zealand can stream and watch online. This is due to copyright and licensing agreements, with distribution rights on a region-by-region basis. The Festival does not own the rights to the films.
When can I stream and watch films?
All films open to stream online starting 28 July until 24 August for four weeks.

How do I buy single tickets and watch films?
Here are a few easy steps to buy single ticket(s) and watch films. On your computer or mobile devices (tablet or mobile phone),
Step 1: Sign up for a free Doc Edge Account
- On the top right corner of the page, create or sign in with a Doc Edge account. An email address and password are required.
Step 2: Browse Films and Get Tickets
- Browse the Festival Films page and select the films to purchase or redeem.
- You will receive a notification email confirming your purchase. It also contains instructions on how to stream online.
- All your purchased films should now be loaded on your Doc Edge account.
- On the My Account –Virtual Cinema on the left-hand panel, you should see all your purchased film(s).
Step 3: Stream and Watch Films
- Click on a film to watch, it will open a new browser and redirect to our Virtual Cinema.
- On the top right corner of the page, sign in using your Doc Edge account credentials.
- When signing in, we recommend ticking the “Remember Me” tickbox so that you don’t have to keep re-signing into the Virtual Cinema, especially if you have to come back later to watch multiple films.
- Once signed in, go to My Library. All your purchased films will be listed in the library.
- Click on a film to watch.
How do I redeem 5 or 10 film passes and watch films?
Here are a few easy steps to guide you to redeem 5 or 10 film passes and, watch films. On your computer or mobile devices (tablet or mobile phone),
Pre-requisite – You would have pre-purchased 5 or 10 film pass in advance.
Step 1: Sign in with your Doc Edge Account
- On the top right corner of the page, sign in with a Doc Edge account. An email address and password are required.
Step 2: Browse Films and Get Tickets
- Browse the Festival Films page and select the films to redeem.
- You will receive an email notification confirming the redemption. It also contains instructions on how to stream online.
- All your redeemed films should now be loaded on your Doc Edge account.
- On the My Account –Virtual Cinema on the left-hand panel, you should see all your purchased film(s).

- On the top right corner of the page, sign in with a Doc Edge account. An email address and password are required.
Step 2: Browse all Short of Binge Pass Films
- All your short or binge passes films should now be loaded on your Doc Edge account.
- On the My Account –Virtual Cinema on the left-hand panel, you should see all the short films (29 films) or binge films (78 films).
- On the My Account –Virtual Cinema on the left-hand panel, you should see all your purchased film(s).
