Doc Edge Superhero(s)
The 2026 recipient(s) are
Tim Woodhouse (New Zealand)
Tim fell in love with non-fiction storytelling while working on ABC Television’s Four Corners. After moving to New Zealand in 1989 with his wife, the novelist Stephanie Johnson, he found a true home in the documentary world, and has since helped shape some of the country’s most celebrated films.
From TV docs, (like Waka: The Awakening Dream, Flatmates, Toki Does New York and Choir Games) to Festival docs (Haunting Douglas, Finding Mercy, Sheilas: 28 Years On) and Feature docs (Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls, Dawn Raid and 25 April), and many more, he has helped many filmakers achieve their vision.
“Making a film is scary, and sharing the waka with someone, negotiating fair wind and foul, is an exhilerating ride and a priviledge. I’ve been very lucky.” — Tim Woodhouse
Mette Hoffmann Meyer (Denmark)
Mette Hoffman Meyer is CEO and Founder of THE WHY Foundation.
Hoffmann Meyer was previously head of documentaries at Danish broadcasters TV2 (1992-2007) and DR (Danish Broadcast Corporation) from 2007-16. At DR, she launched the IDA-winning Dokumania series. She has produced and financed films such as Taxi to the Dark Side (2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature), Solar Mama and Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer (2013), Democrats (2014), India’s Daughters (2015), Last Men in Aleppo (2017) and A Storm Foretold (2023). Se has received an honorary Emmy and this year was the Executive Producer of the Academy Award/ BAFTA Award and Peabody for Mr Nobody vs Putin.
Hoffmann Meyer has previously recognized for her contribution to the documentary film industry, including the 2014 Doc Mogul Award at the Hot Docs Festival in Toronto for supporting young filmmakers from around the world.
