Following the success of the 19th edition of DOC EDGE FESTIVAL in 2024, Doc Edge is proud to announce that Matthew Metcalfe has joined its board.

In that time, he has produced over NZD 300 million worth of production, representing twenty-seven feature films and dramatic TV series, ten tele-features and numerous other TV shows, commercials, documentaries and music videos.

His filmography contains some of New Zealand’s most prominent and well-loved films, including WHINA, THE DEAD LANDS, and theatrical documentaries MCLAREN and BEYOND THE EDGE.

Mr Metcalfe is the founder and Managing Director of GFC Films. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland and an Advanced Diploma in English History from Oxford University.

“Documentary records and reflects on who we are, who we are not, and who we wish to be. It is a vital and essential form of storytelling, and I am very proud to be able to further assist Doc Edge with the work they do to showcase the documentary medium,” says Metcalfe.

Doc Edge Chair Glenn Johnstone praised Metcalfe’s extensive experience. “Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for storytelling to our board. His expertise and connections will be invaluable as we continue to grow and champion the art of documentary filmmaking.”
