Events for screen professionals from 26 - 29 June in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Doc Edge is very excited to announce Doc Edge Industry 2024, a 4-day screen professional event from 26 – 29 June in Ōtautahi Christchurch.  This a great platform for screen professionals from New Zealand and abroad to come together to meet, share ideas, network, problem solve, and ultimately to make great content!

Our Pitch event features 22 finalists from all around the world sharing their incredible stories while the Forum is packed full of change-makers and decision-makers ready to open discussions on the most compelling issues facing us today.

All Doc Edge Industry events will be based at the beautiful Christchurch Town Hall which is near the city centre which is packed full of great galleries, shops, restaurants, bars, and the already iconic Riverside Market.

Headlining our event this year is Ted Hope along with several award-winning filmmakers and industry professionals from around the world. They bring vast amounts of experience and insight, and we are looking forward to welcoming them as speakers and facilitators at Pitch and Forum events.

Ted Hope

Ted’s been a producer on over 70 films, studio executive on over 60, CEO of a start-up streamer, co-head of 3 production companies, executive director of a film society & festival, a Professor Of Practice at 2 universities, and founder of a post-production facility, 2 websites, 2 think tanks, & an app. He launched Amazon’s foray into feature film production, leading them to 19 Oscar nominations and 5 wins.

As a producer, his films have received 25 Oscar nominations, with 6 wins. Ted’s memoir and newsletter Hope For Film, are both must reads. Ted helped launch the feature film careers of Ang Lee, Nicole Holofcener, Hal Hartley, Michel Gondry and many others. His most recent films include the first narrative from Oscar-winning documentary director, Roger Ross Williams, Cassandro, as well as the documentary Invisible Nation, on Taiwan, directed and produced by Vanessa Hope.

Chris Gerbhardt

Christopher is a leader in using storytelling to drive social impact, applying a strategic framework he developed at his impact agency/consultancy Stir and while serving as Participant Media's EVP for digital, brand, and business development. At Participant, he led the creation of digital communities and created impact agency/consultancy Tag, which had clients Disney, Intel, American Express, MacArthur Foundation, and Gates Foundation.

Prior to Participant, he was a pioneer in branded entertainment at Pepsi, Ogilvy-where he was the head of emerging technology and innovation—and as co-founder of Integrated Entertainment Partners. He was also a consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and has an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School. He is an Edmund Hillary Fellow and a fellow of the RSA. He teaches at UCLA’s Anderson School and served as Chair of the Ad Council Issue Advisory Board.

AwARDS

Doc Edge Awards are an exciting evening celebrating the vital work of local and international filmmakers of documentary. Winners for Best International Film and Best NZ Film will automatically be shortlisted for Academy Awards®.

FORUM

28-29 June | Town Hall

Doc Edge Forum features keynotes from renowned industry professionals as well as masterclasses and workshops geared towards addressing the current issues affecting our industry. Be part of the conversation to share knowledge and find solutions.

MARKET

26-29 June | Various

Doc Edge Market is a virtual film market that allows filmmakers to showcase their work to industry professionals including funders and commissioners. In addtion, there will be various networking events to connect, ideate and support one another.

Passes & Pricing

All industry events will be ticketed with limited seating capacity, therefore confirmation of your attendance is essential.  As usual, industry and student concessions are available.

Concession

  • Industry Concession is for members of industry organisations which include – AAANZ, Equity New Zealand, DEGNZ, Film Auckland, Ngā Aho Whakaari, NZAPG, NZ Cinematographers Society, NZ Game Developers Association, NZ Writers Guild, Pacific Island Screen Artists (PISA), Pan Asian Screen Collective (PASC), Screen Music and Sound Guild, Screen Industry Guild, Stunt Guild of NZ, SPADA and WIFT NZ.

  • Student Concession simply requires proof of a student ID will be required when collecting the Pass on the day
