Our kaupapa (purpose) is to celebrate, support, and showcase documentary.
Doc Edge is a not-for-profit charitable trust serving as New Zealand’s national organisation for documentaries since 2005. It is also a premiere Asia Pacific hub for all things documentary.
Our flagship programmes include the following:
Doc Edge Festival is New Zealand’s Academy Awards® qualifying international documentary festival, showcasing the best films and immersive projects from New Zealand and around the world. It includes the Awards, Schools Programme, Forum, Pitch & Market (industry events), and Immersive Exhibition.
Doc Edge Awards celebrate excellence and achievement in documentary filmmaking, with winners of the best New Zealand and international short and feature films receiving an Oscar® consideration as well as cash and in-kind prizes.
Doc Edge Immersive Exhibition showcases digital interactive storytelling projects featuring top international and local virtual/augmented reality installations.
Doc Edge Industry provides learning and connecting opportunities for media professionals and comprises three main elements: Forum, Pitch, and Market.
Forum fosters networking and career development for storytellers.
Pitch allows filmmakers to present their projects to industry experts, and
Market facilitates connections between New Zealand films and potential buyers.
Doc Edge Schools is an educational programme connecting students from Year 5 to Tertiary with documentary films.
The programme offers curated, in-person screenings as part of the annual Doc Edge Festival events. It also includes a Student Short Documentary Competition that celebrates and showcases the amazing talents of aspiring young filmmakers.
