In Cinema

Don't miss this incredible opportunity to provide your students with a "festival" experience full of unmissable films.

During the annual Doc Edge Festival, we offer our
Year 10 – 13 and Tertiary students free daytime screenings of selected documentaries, specifically curated for educational purposes.

Our Schools sessions will showcase nine feature films and two compilations of short films, each chosen for their educational and inspiring content.

We encourage you to check out the schedules below and make bookings for your classes as early as possible, as most films are only screened once and on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year, Schools In Cinema runs across the following:

  • Auckland: 25 – 27 June | 10.30am and 12.30pm | The Capitol Cinema and Bridgeway Cinema
  • Christchurch: 17 – 25 July | 10.30am and 12.30pm | Christchurch Art Gallery
  • Wellington: 17 – 25 July | 10.30am and 12.30pm | The Roxy Cinema

Prepare for a cinematic adventure around the globe that promises to enrich your curriculum and provide your students with an unforgettable learning experience.

Student Competition for Short Documentary

There is also an annual Student competition for Short Documentary that showcases the amazing talents of our aspiring young filmmakers. The winner will be announced during the Doc Edge Awards night on Thursday 3 July 2025.

 Virtual Classroom

Beyond the Festival period, we run a Virtual Classroom, an online screening platform, accessible to all schools across the country.
