Doc Edge Forum runs after Pitch as part of the four-day industry event. All industry events will be held at Grand Millennium Auckland.

The Doc Edge Forum is the premier annual gathering event that draws local and international screen professionals, making it an essential opportunity for filmmakers, industry experts, and students alike.  

We look forward to welcoming an outstanding lineup of local and international filmmakers, documentary leaders, funders, commissioners, sales agents, distributors, acquisition managers, co-producers, festival programmers, marketplace managers, and mentors to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Programme

We’ve reimagined the traditional format, to create an interactive, immersive Forum.  Designed to inspire, provoke thought, and challenge the boundaries of storytelling, the Forum is committed to supporting content creators at every stage of their careers. Through engaging keynote speakers, in-depth sessions, and valuable networking opportunities, the Forum offers crucial insights into funding, distribution, festival involvement, and production.

  • The Future of Documentary – A Storyteller’s Revolution Join Ryan Harrington, Executive Producer of Documentary at BD4, for an in-depth conversation about the transformative future of documentary filmmaking.
  • Crafting Stories with Impact  Join Courtney Sexton, EVP of Film and Television at Jigsaw Productions, responsible for some of the world’s most compelling documentaries, for an engaging conversation about the art of storytelling that matters. 
  • A Superhero’s Journey – Keynote from Ruby Chen, a trailblazer in the documentary industry, for a captivating talk on her pioneering efforts in opening up China and Taiwan’s documentary sectors to the global stage. 
  • ChatGPT – From Pitch to Impact – A practical workshop with Peter Larsen, using AI tools, from tightening pitches and automating tedious tasks to managing impact campaigns, reclaim your creative headspace with smarter filmmaking strategies. 
  • Various Roundtables including
    • Broken News – Can Journalism be Fixed? Journalism has a credibility problem as economic disruption, political polarization, and the proliferation of new media platforms reset the whole industry. What can we do to save journalism, documentaries and ourselves?
    • The Rise of Asia – A Global Shift in Documentary, Meet some of the most influential voices in documentary from the region as to how we can work together.
