NEW MEDIA: STORY EDGE
The future of storytelling is here
Story Edge brings together storytellers, designers, creative technologists and producers from across Aotearoa New Zealand to collaborate on transformative, immersive stories told across interactive digital platforms. Through a series of sandboxes, masterclasses and talks by leading New Zealand and international practitioners, Story Edge covers digital interactive storytelling from VR/AR/mixed reality through installations to interactive website and transmedia projects.
Story Edge World Exhibition 2018
Owen G Glenn Building, University of Auckland
Story is central to everything across the entire spectrum of business and community. Humans have been telling stories around campfires and kitchen tables from time immemorial. Stories aren’t going anywhere and nor is the visceral, inexplicable, bone-deep shivery delight of a good tale well told.
New technologies give creative people new ideas. Art and technology are often considered separate– but this is not, and never has been, true. Art is affected by technology because artists love to experiment, and every new technological development is a new creative tool.
It’s a fascinating juncture for storytellers, and in the fullness of time these developments will do as much to help us recapture the past as they will to reinvent the future.
Story Edge explores how evolving digital technologies impact the way we tell stories. It facilitates the development of digital, interactive storytellers and their projects, and examines what interactive digital narratives and fully-immersive realities mean for writers and artists in the digital era.
Story Edge kaupapa is to create immersive story worlds where audiences are able to engage with, as well as experience and participate in, storytelling.
The Exhibition is open to the public and enables audiences to experience a multitude of different projects.
