Yoko Ono, Don McLean, Chet Baker – You know these names. Though you likely haven’t heard of their friend and collaborator Ken Dewey.
Ken Dewey – This Is A Test tells the story of an unheralded yet pivotal figure in the art world of the 1960s and ‘70s. Ken Dewey was a visionary artist, iconoclast and a powerful disruptor.
In his all-too-brief career he created participatory ‘happenings’ with audiences throughout Europe and America and revolutionised his position at the New York State Council on the Arts to motivate social and ecological change through art. From San Francisco to Sweden, Ken Dewey – This Is A Test takes us back to Dewey’s final and most prolific decade from 1959 to 1972.
With unprecedented access to over 600 of Dewey’s personal recordings, rare film from around the world and interviews with Dewey’s friends and collaborators, this documentary brings Dewey’s life and art to the screen for the first time since his tragic death in 1972.
We often find ourselves standing on the shoulders of giants but we don?t know their names. Meet Ken Dewey. Artist. Rebel. Visionary.
